Hi guys,

Hope you guys are all staying safe online, and fairing well during these unprecedented times. We will all get through this…

Here are some interesting news articles:

Nicely written article by @MetallicaMVP about how to work securely from home. Easy read, good tips:

Dispelling mistrust around contact tracing: “as Google and Apple tell it, the system – which will run on either Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android operating systems – requires explicit user consent. It collects neither users’ personally identifiable information (PII) nor their location data. The list of people you’ve been in contact with never leaves your phone. Also, keep in mind if the app detects that you have been close to somebody who’s tested positive for coronavirus, the system will inform you what day you guys had contact, how long the contact lasted, and the Bluetooth signal strength of that contact i.e. how close your were standing to each other. That’s the only bit of info that will be shared. Period. Also, Bluetooth has been chosen as the preferred method to GPS or Wifi for contact tracing, because it doesn’t keep track of location data. It only monitors who is close to you

As predicted, the bad guys are using Covid-19 as a way to social engineer us. Here as some simple examples. Stay vigilant!

A wonderful new tool called DangerZone that’s been released that allows you to open any document receive, and strip out anything malicious from inside it. Takes a few things to set it up, but then it’s all worth it

Nice break down of physical security keys you can buy. Whichever one you choose, at the very least please buy one, as they are the gold standard for authentication these days.

=================

FCC has been partnering with FTC to crack down on the millions of robocalls we receive every day, by forcing telecommunications providers to ‘authenticate the caller’. This won’t prevent fraud 100%, but will at least block scam callers from spoofing caller ID. Its a good start anyway:

Facebook is releasing their Rooms Video Conference service, to compete with Zoom. Its not end-to-end encrypted, so I’m sure Facebook will be hanging out on the backed watching as usual. I would use other more secure options for work-related calls if were you guys:

And finally, check out this guy @Kitboga, who livestreams himself calling and pranking scammers and fraudsters on the Internet. Good stuff 🙂
